Update

Recently in media we've been cracking on with our two minute movie scenes.
We've managed to finalise our plot, write the synopsis and present our movies using a flip mino and the steady hand of Mr. VS.
Filming is going to prove difficult as we don't know whether or not we will be allowed to film on the train/station.

With Mrs. Francis we have continued to look at British film. We watched the Full Monty at the end of term and researched into why it was such a successful movie. Among many factors, the most interesting was probably the fact that they released teasers about the movie as people didn't actually understand what the full Monty meant. This pulled in the audience and led to big success.

And in more important news, an Australian prison guard, held hostage, was released after the ransom for pizza was met. 20 inmates seized the guard over conditions in the jail. Initially 24 demands were made, however, they released the guard after settling for pizza, coke and garlic bread.

Recent News/work

With Mrs. Francis we've been looking at British films and what makes a British film.
Majority of actors, editing, director and funding are all factors which can make a film British.
Yesterday we looked at 'The Full Monty' and 'Notting Hill' and discussed how location of Britain is represented in these films.
Today we were split up into several teams and researched various sections of British Film. My group looked at the genre of different British films since 1996. Overall i think we managed to come up with around 55 different British films since 1996 which was an impressive effort from the group.

recent studies

Finally added everyone else's blog =)
Thought i should blog now as Mr.V's Friday ''study'' threat didn't appeal to me.
Here's what's been happening:
Liv, Hannah and I have made some cheeky progress on the filming task. Olivia's brilliant story idea, which i won't give away just yet, really gripped me. Although the filming of it may a bit tricky in places, i think it'll all go smoothly. We will probably start filming tomorrow in fact, hoping to have all filming done before we break up.
With Mrs Francis, we've been looking at Todorov's theory:
1. Equilibrium
2. Disturbance
3. Resolution
We have been applying this to British film.

Movie making and watching

I haven't blogged in a while so i thought i'd update you on what's been happening.
Just 2 minutes i go i wrote all of this blog out and clicked publish and hey, it doesnt work, tells me to click back and try again and all of my writing has gone, brill!
Our latest task in media for Mr. VS is to make a 2 minute opening to a movie genre of our choice. So, i've been scanning youtube for various movies. For comedy i looked at the Waterboy, classic. Gladiator for action, enough said. Finally i looked at Scream which takes me back to when i was 9. The reason being is that's the first time i watched it. And yes, i had nightmares about the scream man for 2 years. I can happily say i'm out of that funk now =)
However, im still reluctant to watch the scream movies haha.

the media effect

I noticed Johnny Colbert wrote a little bit about this which compelled me to put my views across as well. It's all about how, since we started looking at cinematography and editing etc, media has changed my perception of movies and general TV watching.
Every time I sit down to watch something nowadays I'm consciously thinking to myself, mise en scene, why has that been put there? What's the author trying to tell us? oh there's a cut, and another. But the worst one has to be sitting there and thinking to yourself, close up, another close up, establishing shot, oh, there's a pan and so on.
Will i ever be able to watch television again without flooding my mind with media questions?
We shall see =)

Media diary entry

Friday 24th:
Long day doing nothing at home. Watched a couple of movies as you do, Never Back Down and Evan Almighty, the first being the personal favourtie. Also spent the whole day listening to music, mainly a mixed playlist along with checking facebook every now and again.
Pretty boring day as you can see =)

Media Diary

Weds 22nd October.
Lots of time spent on the computer, mainly practising my theory and doing pe coursework. The most frustrating thing however, is that my handycam (camcorder) won't connect to the computer so i cant import my interview for my coursework >.<
On the bright side i watched a program called 'Extraordianry animals in the womb'. Was pretty incredible and very factual.
Something you probably didn't know which i learned from that program: The movie 'Alien' was influenced by the Parisitic Wasp in that it injects its embryos into a victim where they grow and eventually eat their way out =)

Part 9

Monday the 13th: a media disaster!
A normal day at school once again turned sour when i went to my Media Studies lesson. Don't get me wrong, i love the subject, but the equipment can be so troublesome sometimes :S
After being assigned a short task in which we were to record a simple scene and then edit it focusing on music, my group soon realised that:
1. The video recorder rewound amazingly slowly
2. We couldn't actually get it to record.
After Rono Wellington failed to operate the video camera we had to hike iy back, test several more and then record away.
Eventful day indeed, turned out to be great fun in the end.
Morale of the story is... test your equipment before going out to find it doesn't work :)

part 8

Saturday, early rise for the morning row in marlow. A very generous 20km first session from the coach >.<>
After rowing was a fairly relaxed day, spent most the day with the girlfriend watching movies and x-factor ;)

Sunday was possibly the most frustrating and boring day of my blogging history. Parents were away so i spent the whole day at home doing biology homework to my dismay (couldn't find anything for the topic i had to research). Accompanied by music the whole day, various artists, kept me sane.

Monday the 6th. Good day at school, informative talk from Grant about honey bees and the environment. The highlight of the day had to be making a little movie scene in media. After publicly embarassing oursleves outside of tesco and in the car park, we managed to put together a saucy little number.

Part 7

Wednesday 1st october, the new month has finally come. Today was a pretty standard day like others, listened to the ipod in the car on the way and way back from school. We had the joy of writing a letter to a made up character called Uncle Ebenezor about franchises in Business Studies. From around 7 until 9 the computer came into action for homework, facebook and music.

Thursday was an eventful day indeed. After receiving a fantastic powerpoint on Media Institutions, we explored our trampolining skills in PE. Next came Fives and then a 30 minute wait for the school bus to take the swim team to Mill Hill, which, in the end, was cut short due to the fact that they were running late. Home at about 8 and straight into some research about sony whilst mellowing to music.

Friday: Jeans for Genes day. Ipod on the way to school as normal, i gave up on listening to the radio a long time ago, although it would probably help listening to the news once in a while :S
During PS we had the delight of practising the School house song, 'Keep on movin'' by five. After a hard week of school a well earned TV session began =) Scrubs, friends and the notebook were the main victims.
